Margaretha F. Cook, called Marga, was born about 1899 in Hawaii, then newly a territory of the United States, according to the 1950 census as the old family tree cites it.1 Her maiden name was very probably Fincke: it is the mother's maiden name given in the California death index for her son.2

She married Calixte Clayton Cook, a Nebraska-born son of James Harrison Cook and Adelaide M. Haywood, and they lived in California, where their son Calixte Clayton Cook Jr. was born on 10 August 1928, at Oakland according to his obituary index.2–3 By 1950 the family was in Modoc County, in the northeastern corner of the state, where the old tree's reading of the census gives both Margaretha and her husband as cleaners and their son as a laundryman.1 Her son died at Alturas, the county seat, in April 1968, aged thirty-nine; the index of his obituary names his mother as "Marga Cook".2–3 When and where she died has not been found.
