Life story
Genevieve Helen Valancourt was born on 23 June 1918 at South Bend, the seat of Pacific County, on the Willapa River in south-western Washington.1 Her parents have not yet been identified.
On 29 August 1939, at Aberdeen, on Grays Harbor, she married Odis Alfred Wilson, who had grown up on Grays Harbor after his family came west from Missouri and Oklahoma (see his profile).2 These were hard years on the harbor. In 1940 the couple were living in Aberdeen's fifth ward,3 and when Odis registered for the draft that October he was working on a W.P.A. project; he named "Genevieve Helen Wilson", his wife, as his next of kin.4 By April 1950 the young family in Aberdeen numbered seven: "Otis A.", thirty-six, "Genieve H.", thirty-one, a daughter of ten and four little boys.5
Genevieve and Odis spent the rest of their married life in Aberdeen, where Odis worked in street maintenance for the city. Their home was at 1011 Cleveland Street, and there Odis died on 22 February 1996, after more than fifty years of marriage; Genevieve gave the details for his death certificate.6
She outlived him by three years. Genevieve died on 11 February 1999 in King County, in the Seattle area, though her home was still in Grays Harbor County, and she was buried beside Odis in Fern Hill Cemetery at Aberdeen.1, 7–9

The old family tree attaches the Grays Harbor County marriage record (document swgrhmc13140) to their marriage at Aberdeen on 29 Aug 1939. Its document number falls between those of marriages of March 1936 (swgrhmc10989) and October 1939 (swgrhmc13210), close to the latter, which fits August 1939 rather than WikiTree's 1938. Odis named her as his wife on his draft card of 16 Oct 1940, she was the informant for his death certificate in 1996, and Find a Grave links their memorials. The record itself has not been read.

- Last name at birth (question): Valancourt is kept. It is her name on the 1939 marriage record (as attached in the old tree), it is the first of the "other surnames" in her obituary index entry, "(Valencourt) (Laduck)", and it is her WikiTree LNAB.2, 8, 10 Find a Grave files her as Genevieve Helen Valancourt with "maiden name" Wilson, which reverses the two: every record from 1940 to 1999 calls her Wilson, and she is buried beside Odis Wilson.1, 4, 5, 6, 7 A suggested correction could be sent to Find a Grave. The spelling Valencourt (obituary index) is a variant.
- "Laduck": The obituary index also gives the surname Laduck. It may be an earlier marriage (before 1939, when she was twenty or twenty-one) or a stepfather's name used in her childhood. The 1939 marriage record, which on Washington records of the time usually gives the bride's former name, age and parents, would settle it.8
- Marriage date: 29 Aug 1939 (the marriage record as attached in the old tree) against 29 Aug 1938 (WikiTree). The document number, swgrhmc13140, falls close to that of her brother-in-law Woodrow Wilson's marriage of 7 Oct 1939 (swgrhmc13210), which favours 1939.2, 10 The free image on the Washington State Digital Archives should be read before WikiTree is changed.
