Johanna Hegnauer, who seems also to have been called Anna, married Friedrich Spinnler at Liestal, in what is now the canton of Basel-Landschaft, Switzerland, in June 1816.1 She was the mother of at least seven Spinnler children, twins among them, and she very probably died at Liestal in the summer of 1842, aged about fifty.2–4 Where she came from, and who her parents were, is not known.
Marriage and children
Johanna and Friedrich were married at Liestal on 10 June 1816.1 Their first child, Johannes, was born on 3 June 1817, a week short of their first anniversary, and baptised five days later.5 On 10 January 1821 twins were born, a boy and a girl. Both were baptised on 14 January, with their parents' names: Friedrich, like his father, and Anna, as the register calls her mother.2–3 A daughter, Maria, was born about 1826.6 Three more children, Luisa, Karl and Rosina, are named in entries that carry no dates, as are two entries for Maria, so the order of the younger children is not known.7–10
Later years
Johanna died at Liestal on 29 June 1842 and was buried there on 2 July. The register of her burial joins her two names, Johanna Hegnauer Spinnler, and gives her birth year as 1792.4 Her twins were then twenty-one.
Fifteen months later, on 17 October 1843, a Friedrich Spinnler married another Hegnauer, Maria, at Liestal.11 He may have been Johanna's widower, or their son Friedrich, then twenty-two, or another man of the name; the records found so far do not say, and who Maria's parents were is not known either. On 6 September 1849 Johanna's daughter Maria married Johannes Hefelfinger at Bennwil, and the entry still names her parents, Friedrich Spinnler and Anna Hegnauer.6

Friedrich Spinnler and Johanna (or Anna) Hegnauer are named as the parents at the Liestal baptisms of 1817 and 1821 and in the entries of five more children.
