Detailed Statement of the Clerk's Office for Two Years.

The following report of the county experts was this morning approved by the county court in special session:

SALEM, Or., July 14, 1898.

To the Honorable County Court of Marion County, Oregon:

In accordance with your order of June 29, 1898, employing us to expert the books of County Clerk L. V. Ehlen, as per agreement in open court at the time the order was made, we submit herewith our report upon the condition of the various funds held in trust by him. We have gone over the work very carefully, beginning with Mr. Ehlen's first term, checking each amount shown on his book of disbursements, from the original papers and vouchers on file. In course of the work we found a number of payments not entered, we also found some entered for which there is no evidence of payment. The latter are noted and explained below. We have used every means at our command to find some evidence of payment where there was no voucher on file, by consultation and correspondence with parties interested. We find that he should have had $3278.09 on hand to turn over to his successor in office July 5, 1898, belonging to the following accounts:
