Taken up as a stray by Anton Hammer of Pleasant Gap twp, Bates Co. Mo., on the 2nd day of Dec. 1873, and posted before the undersigned J. P. one Bay Pony, supposed to be 3 years old, about 14 hands high, black mane and tail, also, left hind foot white, branded on right shoulder with letter K. Appraised at $28, by Leonard Hegnauer and Carl Hubner. J. W. Brooks, J. P.
Taken up as a stray by Carl Hubner of Pleasant Gap twp, Bates Co. Mo., on the 2nd day of Dec. 1873, and posted before the undersigned J. P. one four year old steer, color, Brown, with white tail and white in face. Appraised at $2[8?] by Anton Hammer and Leonard Hegnauer. J. W. Brooks, J. P.

Facts: he was living in Pleasant Gap Township by 1873, and his neighbours Anton Hammer and Carl Hubner trusted him as an appraiser. Identity: certain. The full name is given, and his son was one year old.
